Model Portfolios

You want to be a model for your career?.. Or maybe even just for one day!!

Come to the studio and Nishmedia can produce a fantastic starting portfolio for your career, update an existing portfolio by collaberating on some fresh, crazy and wonderful ideas or simply come down for a day to see what it is like to have your make-up done by a professionally trained MUA and to be put through your paces in front of the camera.

But I have never done any modelling before...Does that matter?

Don't worry!  Everyone is always a little apprehensive.  Your modelling portfolio shoot will be fun.  I will start off by running you through a few simple poses and after a short while you will be feeling one hundred times more confident than when you walked in the door.

As silly as it sounds, it helps some people if they copy poses from a magazine and practice them in front of a mirror in the days running up to your studio session.

What should I bring?

Bring 5 or 6 outfit changes and lots of accessories. Try to make them differing in style.

+  Sophisticated
+  Casual
+  Sporty
+  Glamourous
+  Funky
+  OUTRAGEOUS!

Basically, don't just turn up in a pair of jeans and a few t-shirts.  You won't get as much out of the session as you could do if you bring a larger variety!!

Bring clothing to match how you want to portray yourself OR how you want to portray yourself in your images but not neccessarily how you are in the real world!

How long is the session?

I will only book in one shoot per day.  The shoot is designed to cater for three to four hours in the studio.  Sometimes things take a little longer and sometimes things take a little shorter.  It all depends on how quickly you take to standing infront of a camera. It may take some people an hour to lose the nerves and it may take some people ten minutes.

I book in only the one shoot per day as it allows me to focus on just the one person on that one day.  It also doesn't matter if we run over schedule slightly.

When can I see the photos?

You can book in a time to view your photographs at the time of your shoot.  I will need to edit and re-touch (minor blemish removal) all images for your viewing.  You will see a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 40 images (depending on how productive the shoot was).

You may be aware that there are other studios offering similar 'makeover' portfolio shoots.  The ones that state that they offer ALL images on CD and you NEED them all for a portfolio are really scamming young people.  All I can say is QUALITY and NOT QUANTITY.

It is mainly the studios in London that are the main culprits for scamming young people out of money.

What should be in my portfolio

Firstly - and this is important!: You should not have two shots with the same lighting set-up and look in your book at the same time.  You need to show variety, versatility and that you have worked with a number of different people.  This is obviously difficult to show when starting out. The MUA and I aim to produce enough variety during the shoot to give your portfolio the best possible start even though it was all shot at the same time.

The style of your book all depends on what type of modelling you wish to pursue?  Three common avenues to go down are:

Lifestyle: You're images should be light hearted with plenty of laughs and smiles, softly lit and you should keep your clothing to casual.  Lifestyle modelling is not fussy about height and weight. There is a job out there for most people.

Fashion:
You should keep your portfolio looking fresh, clear images of your face and figure, have a number of different 'looks' (hair and make-up etc).  Think of fashion stories you see in magazines and work with photographers to create this look.  Remember, you are selling what you are wearing! You don't need mad poses. You will have to be fairly tall to succeed with fashion.

Glamour: You should keep your portfolio focused on just you.  The job of a glamour model is to advertise herself more than advertise a product.  As shallow as it sounds, it's all about your figure AND your face.  There is not as much money in the glamour industry as there used to be.
